Holding the State Accountable - 10/31/13
Many of the story ideas we investigate come through tips from the public. Part of my job is sifting through those phone calls and emails to see what we as reporters can hone in on.
About a month ago, a tip came in that wait times for the State's abuse and neglect hotline were incredibly high. Could seem like nothing, right? After looking into the issue, I found the people who actually run the hotline had requested more money to get the wait times down.
So who is in control of the money and why are they alright with it being so high? I'll show you what happens when we take the issue to the people in charge, and get explanations on how a lack of interest is directly impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of Texans. Probably people you know.
