4 Days Remaining, More Blue Santa Volunteers Still Needed

Updated: Tuesday, December 10 2013, 08:28 AM CST

There are just days remaining until Blue Santa drops off 15,000 presents to 3,800 Austin families and there's still a lot to do. Blue Santa is calling on the public to volunteer their time to wrap and pack boxes. There's no signup required. Just show up to the Blue Santa warehouse at 4101 S. Industrial Drive in South Austin from noon to 8:00 pm to help.

The presents will be distributed on Saturday, December 14th starting at 8:00 am. 500 plus volunteers are expected to show up, but the more the merrier. There are three locations for the public to go to, the OBS Warehouse at 4101 S. Industrial Drive, the North Substation at 12425 Lamplight Village, the South Substation at 404 Raplh Albanedo and the Central Substation at 812 Springdale Road. Once you arrive, your car will be loaded up with as many deliveries as you can fit and then you can have the wonderful task of dropping the presents off at families' homes and see their reactions. Besides gifts, families will also be receiving a turkey and additional food.

Long time Blue Santa Board Member Margarine Beaman says more presents are also needed. After Saturday's drop off, Blue Santa will be serving additional families who lost everything in October's flood and those families that would typically rely on the Christmas Bureau. Last year the Christmas Bureau was shutdown after the former chief was sentenced to four years for stealing thoussands of dollars from the organization.
