DIY Projects Help HDTV Picture Local video producer Barbara Roth is out with a unique how-to video on HDTV. The video is called “Destination Home Theater.”

Her focus isn't on the TVs themselves. It's on making home improvements that will make your HDTV picture look even better.

For instance did you know that a little paint can help make your HD picture pop?

Roth says, “Light from the screen reflects upon your walls and ceiling and washes out screen contrast. So it's very important that you have a dark and neutral room in your home theater.”

Home theaters do look best in dark rooms. But if you need to live in that room, too, layering window treatments will allow you to let in the light for work and play and shut off the light when you want to watch TV.

And there are all kinds of great-looking floor coverings out there. But Roth recommends softer materials to prevent unwanted echoes in your surround sound.

She says, “A good idea would be to lay area rugs in your home theater. But a better situation would be to have wall-to-wall carpeting."
