The town of Cranfills Gap, Texas will soon be getting on a plane and heading to Las Vegas. Yes, the entire town.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman invited Cranfills Gap to “take a break” and leave stress behind. About half of the Cranfills Gap population will take part in the trip, sponsored by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority.

"This town is out of their mind excited," Doug Finelli with the R&R Partners PR Firm said.

An Elvis tribute artist and Las Vegas show girls showed up to make the big announcement Sunday. Cranfills Gap was chosen among a list of more than 100 small towns across the country.

"It puts Gap on the map," said Cranfills Gap Mayor and Fire Chief.

A production team has been filming in the town for a week, documenting the townspeople. Cameras will follow several different people while in Las Vegas in order to produce a documentary film that will appear on VisitLasVegas.com.

In addition to the video, nearly half a dozen national commercials will be made to highlight the trip and encourage visitors to Sin City, despite the sluggish economy. Officials say that people need a break from their everyday stress, especially during a time like this.

"This campaign allows us to bring real people to Vegas to see that Vegas is fun," Finelli said.

Residents will enjoy a four night stay in Las Vegas. The cost of the trip is completely covered by the LVCVA. Those traveling will leave Saturday, Dec. 13.

This weekend, people were busy getting ready as the production team finished their work in Texas, making plans to continue shooting in Las Vegas.

"I don't know how they found Cranfills Gap,” Mayor Witte said. “But I’m glad they did," he added.
