In its 12th year, the Texas Film Hall of Fame was a success again, but this year the red carpet event moved to ACL Live at the Moody Theater.  Stargazers were able to buy balcony seats for $50, which wasn’t possible when the celebration was at the Austin Studios in years past.

People gathered Thursday night at the Austin Film Society’s biggest fundraising event of the year.

Outstanding Texans are honored who have made significant contributions in filmmaking and entertainment and non-Texans who have contributed to the Texas entertainment industry.

Additionally, Texas films and television shows are honored.  Angie Dickinson accepted the Star of Texas Award for “Rio Bravo,” a western from 1959 that starred John Wayne.  Other honorees included Barry Corbin, who was presented by G.W. Bailey, and Douglas McGrath, who was presented by Caroline Rhea.  Meatloaf, named Michael Lee Aday and from Dallas, received the Soundtrack Award presented to him by Brett Cullen.  Robert Rodriguez presented his cousin, Danny Trejo with the Patrón Honorary Texan Award.  Danny starts shooting “Machete Kills” this spring.

The evening was kicked off by Matthew McConaughey making jokes of why Texas is a better state than others.  Comedian Anjelah Johnson emceed the event and musical guests included Suzanna Choffel and ended with an incredible performance by Grupo Fantasma and Nakia.
