Bettie's Box Office: Earth To Echo Review

Updated: Thursday, July 3 2014, 06:48 PM CDT

Earth to Echo feels like it wants to be the E.T. for a new generation.

Three boyhood friends on one last adventure find a helpless, stranded alien and try to stay one step ahead of the government to help it get home. Sound familiar?

While the story is old, the tiny robotic owl is fresh and engaging. The problem is you barely get to see the cute little guy and that is my biggest issue with this film.

I'm also getting really tired of the jerky camera movement style of shooting movies. The concept is that the kids are documenting their own adventure, but it gets old fast.

There were several moments which got laughs from the 12-and-under crowd in the screening I attended, but there's not much there for parents.

If you have a pre-teen, Earth to Echo is a fine matinee. In comparison to E.T. this one seems like it was phoned in.

Earth to Echo is rated PG for some action and peril, and mild language.
