Bettie's Box Office: The Rise of the Guardians Movie Review

Updated: Wednesday, November 21 2012, 09:27 PM CST

Christmas gets its own superheroes in the new film, Rise of the Guardians. The beautifully animated movie will take you on a magical ride with a sword-wielding Santa, a tunnel-traveling Easter Bunny, a tooth fairy who is half-human and half-hummingbird, and a sandman who can defeat the most powerful of enemies with his dreamsand whips.

At the heart of the film is Jack Frost, a rebel in search of a cause. This smart young supernatural controls the wind, storms, snow and cold. His search for a purpose forces him to join the Immortal Guardians and face the evil spirit, Pitch (as in pitch black). Pitch thinks it’s time for fear to rule the world and it’s up to the Guardians to keep dreams from being overtaken by nightmares.

The voices of Chris Pine (Jack Frost), Alec Baldwin (North), Hugh Jackman (Bunny), Isla Fisher (Tooth) and Jude Law (Pitch) bring freshness to a slightly stale storyline. The addition of mischievous and cantankerous elves and overworked and long-suffering yetis kept the kids in the theater, when I saw the film, engaged the entire 97 minutes. My sixteen year old son even enjoyed the movie, and wasn’t too embarrassed to admit it. Rise of the Guardians is a must see start to the holidays for the entire family.

The 3D fantasy-adventure film opens November 21, 2012. It’s rated PG for thematic elements and some mildly scary action.Bettie's Box Office: The Rise of the Guardians Movie Review
