Bettie's Box Office: White House Down Review

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:06 PM CDT
The big movie opening this weekend is White House Down. It stars Jamie Foxx as an Obama-esque US President, and Channing Tatum as a wanna-be secret service agent.

The unlikely pair finds themselves trying to escape a fortified White House after it's taken over by terrorists with guns and rocket launchers.

There's a lot of great action in the movie, but sometimes the script misses the mark. The good news is Foxx doesn't over-play the cool and Tatum doesn't overplay the hot.

The camaraderie between Foxx and Tatum is one of the best parts of the movie. There's also some good comic relief from an uptight White House tour guide.

White House Down is actually better than I thought it was going to be, but this Die Hard knock-off just doesn't deliver quite enough yippee-ki-yah fun.

White House Down opens Friday, June 28 and is rated PG-13 for prolonged sequences of action and violence including intense gunfire and explosions, some language and a brief sexual image. Running time: 137 minutes.
