Comic Book Of Superman First Appearance Sells For $2M

Updated: Saturday, July 26 2014, 11:09 AM CDT

Did you ever wonder if any of the old comics you read as a kid might be worth something? How about $2.16 million. That's what a copy of Action Comics Number 1 went for at auction Wednesday - a new record.

Why is that particular comic so special? Well - it's hard to imagine a time when the world had never heard of Superman - but even the Man of Steel had to debut sometime. He started out as the star of Action Comics number 1, in 1938.

Now, the comic is rare, with only about 100 copies remaining, and the one that sold Wednesday night is thought to be the most pristine in existence.

This is the third time this particular book has set a record at auction - last time topping out at $150,000 in 1997. But its value has gone up particularly since it was stolen in 2000, and thought lost. It was recovered in a California storage shed last year.
