Veteran theatre professional Bob Beare will direct the upcoming free performances of the hit musical Blood Brothers, London’s longest running chamber musical, for the Trinity Street Players.  The free performances will run weekends from June 2 through 24 at the downtown Black Box Theatre.

Written by award-winning author Willy Russell, Blood Brothers revolves around the story of two twin brothers separated at birth.  One brother, Eddie, was adopted by wealthy parents and lives an affluent life with endless opportunities. The other brother, Mickey, is raised in poverty by his birth mother. The tale spans more than 20 years of the boys’ lives and finds Eddie going to prestigious University of Oxford, while Mickey turns to a life of crime and ultimately prison.

While trying to overcome the social divide, the boys both fall in love with the same girl.  The circumstances prove to be too much, split their relationship and leads to tragedy.

“The show is known as the musical for people who hate musicals,” said Beare. “There are very few applause spots because the show moves so fluidly and takes the audience on a very satisfying and emotional ride.”

Director Beare last helmed the highly-acclaimed Three Viewings for Trinity Street Players.  His many credits as a director, actor and singer include Houston's Theatre Under the Stars, Stages Repertory Theatre, Theatre Lab and Main Street Theatre.  He is also an accomplished composer and lyricist and has written, directed and performed a variety of music for stage, screen and video.

The cast features Austin favorites Ann Pittman, Jim Lindsay, Steve Williams, David McCullars and Sarah Zerigue.  Austin-based composer, orchestrator and production pianist David Blackburn provides the musical direction.

Performances will run Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are free to the public, but reservations must be made by calling (512) 402-3086.  Donations will be appreciated.

The Black Box Theatre located at 901 Trinity Street, on the 4th floor of the First Baptist Church.  For more information, visit www.TrinityStreetPlayers.com.
