What To See At SXSW 2012 Film

The film portion of SXSW runs March 9 - March 17 and can get overwhelming.  There are over 150 films screening and these seven are some of the best. We've also listed some of the cast members that are in town to conduct Q&As after the screenings. With this break down you'll be able to find this week's best films.


Nature Calls (Comedy) 85 minutes - Narrative Spotlight

Synopsis:  Sibling rivalry brothers, Randy (Patton Oswalt) and Kirk (Johnny Knoxville) has never seen things the same way, but everything is taken to a whole new level when Randy takes Kirk's son and his slumber party friends on a Scout Trip that they will never forget.

Synopsis: Three magazine employees head out on an assignment to interview a guy who placed a classified ad seeking a companion for time travel.

Synopsis: When a debt puts a young man's life in danger, he turns to putting a hit out on his evil mother in order to collect the insurance.

The Hunter (Drama) 101 minutes - Headliner

Synopsis: Martin, a skilled mercenary, is sent from Europe by a mysterious biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a hunt for the last Tasmanian tiger.

Somebody Up There Likes Me (Comedy) 98 minutes - Narrative Spotlight

Synopsis: This comedy is about thirty-five years in the life of Max (Keith Poulson), his best friend Sal (Nick Offerman) and a woman they both adore, Lyla (Jess Weixler). The three of them go through mandatory but seemingly unfulfilling entanglements, at weddings, funerals, hospitals, eateries, divorce courts and the tool shed.

Synopsis: A pair of underachieving cops are sent back to a local high school to blend in and bring down a synthetic drug ring.

Synopsis: In small-town Texas, the local mortician strikes up a friendship with a wealthy
