A New Alamo Drafthouse: The Exclusive Sneak Peek At South Austin's Coming Attraction

Updated: Friday, February 17 2012, 05:11 PM CST
Tim League is sort of the Wizard of Aus(tin) when it comes to refining the movie going experience.  So who better to give us a look behind the curtain at a dreamy new Cineplex?

“The sound is going to be incredibly crisp, the picture will be very bright,” Tim gushes about his newest project.  He has been building theaters for 15 years; and just like the movies they screen, there has been a mix of drama, comedy, and horror.

“It’s been a tremendous ride since 1997,” says Tim, “We did a lot of things horribly wrong.  We had no idea how to build a theater”.

But Tim says the latest Alamo Drafthouse being constructed at Mopac and Slaughter Lane will be a happy ending to past mistakes, “Now we know how to build a theater.  This is our best facility yet.”

Incorporated into the design:  A tequila bar and the Mini Mo, an intimate 32 seat theater, “Available for parties or to rent and it gives us the opportunity to support really small movies that can only draw in 25 people at a time”.

Other changes include thicker walls, higher fidelity, sharper digital-only pictures, and a refinement of the food and drink experience that should please the theater owner’s toughest critic, “We have a new table design which hopefully makes my mother happy because she hates crawling under the table”.

Mom, and everyone else, can try out the latest Alamo Drafthouse starting Thursday, March 22.
