Anatomy Of Injustice

Updated: Wednesday, March 7 2012, 05:27 PM CST
A murder case gone terribly wrong is the subject of the book "Anatomy of Injustice."

It takes you back to 1982 when an elderly white widow was found brutally murdered in a small South Carolina town. Police arrested Edward Lee Elmore, a semi-literate, mentally-retarded black man with no previous felony record. Within 90 days of the crime he was tried, convicted and sentenced to death.

Then last week after 30 years behind bars Elmore was set free. The case has become a textbook example of what can go wrong with the criminal justice system in America.

Ray Bonner, a Pulitzer Prize winning writer, documents what he describes as a mishandled murder case in his book "Anatomy of Injustice: A Murder Case Gone Wrong."

You can meet author Ray Bonner Wednesday night and have your book signed. The book signing starts at 7 p.m. at Book People in Downtown Austin at Sixth Street and Lamar Boulevard.Anatomy Of Injustice
