Texas Horse Men Saddle Up To Help American Veterans

Updated: Tuesday, May 29 2012, 06:41 PM CDT

They make for an odd sight, even by Texas standards.  And that’s exactly what they’re going for.  A group called the Texas Rough Riders is raising money by raising a few questions, “What are these guys doing?  Where are they going?  That helps us raise a lot of awareness.  We hand out a bunch of cards,” says Jimmy Clark.  He and his fellow Rough Riders are crossing the state on horseback to raise awareness, and direct people to their website, where they’re collecting money for the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation, “This is our 20th day out and we have another 10 or 14 to go, but I would do it all over again tomorrow if I could...for the people we are helping, they deserve it,” says Clark.

The group is riding 340 miles, which they say is a small sacrifice when they consider the people they’re riding for; American soldiers who’ve ventured to far away frontiers where it’s much wilder than it was in the old west.

“They go over there and lose arms or legs for us.  And even if they don’t, they’re fighting for us.  When they come back people just forget about them...I know everybody is busy with the hustle and bustle of daily life.  Those guys have daily lives too and when they come back they can’t fulfill those daily lives without our help.  “In my mind it is the most worthy cause we could ride for at this particular time”.’
