Blood Donations in Demand After SXSW Crash

The Blood Center of Central Texas is asking for blood donations. This morning the BCCT delivered multiple blood units to Austin area hospitals to help the victims of the tragic South by Southwest crash that happened early this morning.

The Blood Center has been on appeal for Type O negative and O positive for more than two weeks, but inventory is deficit. Donations are also very light this week due to spring break.

The Blood Center says it relies on volunteer blood donors to give the gift of life.

Austin Donor Center, 4300 N Lamar Blvd

Sunday: 10am – 3pm

Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 8am – 5pm

Tuesday, Thursday: 8am – 6 pm

Saturday: 8am – 3 pm

Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 8am - 6 pm

Basic requirements for donating:

1) 17 years old or older

2) Weigh more than 115 lbs

3) Be in generally good health

4) Bring a photo ID

5) The process takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour
