Streets Closed For South By Southwest

Streets and highways around Austin, especially downtown, will be clogged or closed because of the South by Southwest Festivals.
It begins Fri. March 8 and runs through Sun. March 17.
Sixth Street Entertainment District traffic
--6th Street will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. each weekday and on the first weekend of SXSW for commuter traffic.
--6th Street will be open for deliveries to businesses inside the closure area weekdays from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. It will be closed all day Sat., March 16.
--Downtown roads open throughout the festival include 4th, 5th, and 7th through 10th Street. Recommended alternative routes for traveling east and west include 15th and 11th streets.

The city is pushing public transportation and biking for those taking part in the festivals. Capital Metro has expanded its bus and MetroRail service. Read complete information.
--North to southbound streets crossing 6th Street between 5th and 7th streets from San Jacinto Boulevard to Sabine Street will be closed 6 a.m. Fri., March 8-3 a.m. Sun., March 17.
--Red River between 5th and 7th streets closes March 8 at 6 a.m. Other streets from 7th to 10th streets close at 6 a.m. Tue., March 12-3 a.m. Sun., March 17. Cross streets remaining open.
--Trinity Street from Cesar Chavez Street to 4th Street closes 7 a.m. Fri., March 8- 3 a.m. Sun., March 17. 2nd and 3rd streets from San Jacinto Boulevard to Trinity Street closed also.
--The entire Rainey Street area closes between to 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. from Fri., March 8-Sun. March 17. Access is restricted to businesses and residents.
--5th Street from I-35 to Waller Street closes Tue. March 12 at 6 p.m.-3 a.m. Sun., March 17.
--San Marcos Street from 6th to 5th streets close Tue., March 12, at 6 p.m.-3 a.m. Sun., March 17.
