SXSW Rapper Charged With Starting A Riot

Updated: Sunday, March 16 2014, 10:15 AM CDT

Rapper Tyler Okonma aka "Tyler the Creator" is under arrest, accused of inciting a riot during his concert at the historic Scoot Inn in east Austin.  He was caught on camera telling people outside the gates to "push through."

"That's a little scary.  I'd try to get out of there as soon as I could," said Ana Hernandez.

But some concert goers couldn't.  According to an arrest affidavit a bartender had to hold "several people back so one girl who fell to the ground wouldn't get trampled."  He got punched in the face trying to help people.

"You have to fend for yourself a little bit," added Hernandez.

KEYE TV tried getting answers from the general manager at the Scoot Inn but was told she was too busy to talk.

Despite the mob scene last Thursday security at the Inn seemed pretty relaxed -- considering the large crowd in and outside the venue -- leaving some music lovers worried about an unwanted repeat performance.

"There needs to be a little more security," said Josh Trevino.

According to the arrest report "Tyler The Creator" apologized to the crowd but cursed at employees after his performance.

He's charged with starting a riot. The remainder of his concerts in Austin are canceled.
