The Lords Of Salem At SXSW

Another horror movie came to SXSW, this one by Rob Zombie. Zombie's latest addition to his horror franchise is somewhat different than his others, except of course it stars his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie. She's the lead this time. And with the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious on board, you think you have something that's about to blow you away.
In The Lords of Salem, Heidi Hawthorne (Sheri Moon Zombie) is a radio DJ in Salem, Massachusetts. She receives a gift, a record that she plays, not realizing that she is releasing something evil. The eerie song triggers violent visions of Salem's past. After this event, down the hall in apartment 5, strange things begin to happen even though no one lives in that apartment.
Halfway into this art house looking film, I was telling myself that The Lords of Salem was going to be Rob Zombie's best one to date. I've seen all of them and I was wrong. With the use of fearful images that I have ever seen in a horror movie, the suspense just kept building and I felt like I couldn't move for what was going to happen next. The landlord and her girlfriends joined together to be a part of the evil. They started out very sinister, but then quickly turned campy at the end. Sheri Moon had an excellent performance, but what could have been something extraordinary became something laughable in the end.
The Lords of Salem opens up in theaters on April 19 nationwide.
