AG: Suspects Solicited Minors For Sex Online

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:08 PM CDT

Richard Frias drove to a Leander subdivision expecting to hook up with an underage girl.

"Most of them were on social media, online chats other posted online ads that we were able to respond to," said Captain Kimberly Bustos.

He's accused of responding to an online ad with the headline "yung for fun."  In an arrest affidavit obtained by KEYE TV, Frias texted the undercover detective -- posing as the teen -- saying "well, you're getting ready to have sex with a man, not a boy who doesn't know what to do."

Parents living in the Williamson County neighborhood are disgusted.

"It makes me sick.  It makes my stomach turn," said Telene Griffiths.

Over the past month police arrested eight suspects, including Frias.

Each of them is accused of using online websites to solicit sex from a minor.  The owners of those sites are protected from prosecution.

"As long as they report they've done their due diligence," claimed Bustos.

But parents need to do their due diligence as well.

"They need to check their internet activity, their emails, their chats," added Bustos.

Or keep them "off line" altogether.

"I think it's OK to be old fashioned and not let your 10-year-old have an iPhone," said Griffiths.

All eight suspects are charged with solicitation of a minor.
