APD: Child Sexually Assaulted On Hike And Bike Trail

Updated: Wednesday, June 4 2014, 05:57 PM CDT

Police say a 13-year-old boy was sexually assaulted on the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail last month as he tried to walk to his mother's home.

According to the arrest affidavit, 35-year-old Michael Thomas Bergeron is charged with aggravated sexual assualt of a child.

According to court documents, it happened on May 25. Police say the child had left his father's home at around 10:30 p.m. near the 45th Street and Guadalupe Street intersection and started walking south when he was approached by Bergeron.

Police say the victim said Bergeron appeared nice and that he felt like he could trust him, so they continued to walk together.

Bergeron asked the victim to walk to the hike and bike trail where the sexual assault took place, according to court documents.

Police say the boy eventually made it to his mother's home early the next morning and told her what happened.

Detectives were able to identify Bergeron through surveillance video at a Walgreens and 7-Eleven along the route the two walked to Lady Bird Lake. A Travis County Sheriff's Office deputy saw the images and was able to identify him as a person he had worked with previously at a local restaurant, the arrest affidavit says.

Police say Bergeron was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
