APD: Wanted Man Turns Self In To Downtown Concierge

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:08 PM CDT

A man is behind bars and charged with a felony crime for carrying a large amount of cocaine. But the way he turned himself in is what makes his arrest unusual.

The Four Seasons Hotel typically hosts high end functions -- not wanted criminals.

But Sunday, police say 52-year-old Kenneth Dunn approached the concierge and confided he was carrying lots of cash and had warrants out for his arrest. That's when the concierge noticed a big bag full of white powder.

"The officers tested the substance and found it was in fact cocaine," says Senior Officer Veneza Bremner with Austin police.

More than 23 grams of it.

Officers quickly discovered Dunn was indeed a wanted man. Police also say a search of his room found bloodied laundry indicating drug use.

Police promptly arrested him.

"Sometimes people turn themselves into police because they want care. But this was different, turning yourself in to a concierge and then getting arrested for it," says Bremner

Hotel guests we talked to didn't seem concerned about the arrest, and in fact found the strange way it happened amusing.

"I guess a concierge makes you feel at home like you can just let your guard down," Roma Hergott said.

Dunn is charged with a second degree felony because of the amount of cocaine he was carrying.
