Austin Police Get Crime-Fighting Grant
Updated: Wednesday, October 24 2012, 09:32 AM CDT
The Austin Police Department is getting a $1 million grant to combat crime in some of the city’s most active areas.
APD Chief Art Acevedo says the main way that can be done is getting more officers on the streets.
"Quite frankly the better we police our city the more visible our police department is, hopefully at some point we make it so uncomfortable for criminals that they move on to another city that is not as committed," says Acevedo.
The grant is through a new U.S. Justice Department program targeting locations and neighborhoods with significant levels of crime compared to their surrounding areas.
