Man Charged For Taco Stand Hit And Run

Updated: Monday, August 12 2013, 08:23 PM CDT

Police have charged a man for a Central Austin taco stand hit and run that sent one person to the hospital.

According to the arrest affidavit, 22-year-old David Mikkelsen is charged with failure to stop and render aid, a third degree felony.

It happened at around 9:50 p.m. last Thursday at the La Canario Taco Stand located at the intersection of Airport Boulevard and 51st Street.

Court documents say Mikkelsen had put his vehicle in reverse and collided with the taco stand -- pinning a man.

Mikkelsen sped away but minutes later crashed into another vehicle at the 51st Street and I-35 intersection, according to the affidavit.

An employee of the taco stand was taken to the second crash scene by police where she identified Mikkelsen as the man that was driving the car that fled the first crash, according to court documents.

The injured man at the taco stand was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge. His condition is unknown.
