Police: Round Rock Woman High On Meth With Grandkids In Car

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:08 PM CDT

We're told DWI arrests over Memorial Day weekend are not unusual. However, when a grandma and drugs are involved, it raises a few eyebrows.

It started just outside Stony Point High School where police stopped a car for making a wide right turn. Inside was Janice Marie Mitchell. She's a 50-year-old grandmother from Round Rock.

According to police, her eyes were bloodshot, she was confused, and she failed a field sobriety test. The police officer searched her car and found methamphetamine in her purse. A drug recognition expert later confirmed Mitchell was high.

That's not all that was in the car. The affidavit says Mitchell's grandchildren, a 3-year-old, and a 10-year-old were also on board. Mitchell is charged with DWI possession of methamphetamine. She was released from jail Tuesday after posting bond.
