Rashad Owens Makes Court Appearance For Fatal SXSW Crash

Updated: Wednesday, June 4 2014, 05:59 PM CDT

The suspect in the deadly South by Southwest crash in Downtown Austin made a court appearance Wednesday morning.

Rashad Owens has already been indicted on one capital murder count and four of murder, along with 24 aggravated assault counts. The Killeen man remains in the Travis County Jail with bonds totaling around $5.5 million.

Authorities have said Owens accelerated through the crowd March 13, killing two people and leaving more than 20 injured. Two others later died of their injuries. Police say Owens was fleeing a patrolman and driving down a closed street when the crash happened.

On Wednesday, the judge sets Owens' next court date for July 8.
