Reward Increased For Missing Austin Sex Offender

Updated: Tuesday, October 1 2013, 03:25 PM CDT

The reward for one of Texas' 10 most wanted sex offenders has been increased -- and his last known residence was in Austin.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the reward for the capture of Charles Leon Carr, 56, has increased to up to $13,000 if the tip comes in during the month of October.

DPS says Carr was sentenced in 1975 to 99 years in prison for the violent sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Abilene. He was released from prison in 2008 and disappeared in 2009.

Carr's last known residence was in Austin, but he has ties to El Paso. DPS investigators say he could be working in air conditioning repair, refrigerator repair, machine operation, data entry or as a laborer.

His criminal history includes sexual assault of a child, transportation of unlawful aliens and theft. He is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service for probation violation and by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for parole violation, DPS says.

Carr is 6 feet tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds. His tattoos include a skull on his outside upper right arm and skull/dagger/roses on his outside upper left arm. He also has an operation scar on the inside of his right knee and a cut scar inside his right hand.
