Safe Place Program Starts In Round Rock

Updated: Tuesday, April 16 2013, 09:58 PM CDT

In Williamson County there are children in crisis with nowhere to turn. But signs going up around Round Rock are offering them a safe place to go.

A non-profit religious group says they see dozens of children facing this problem on a daily basis. Their objective is to providing a safe place for children who may be in harm's way.

Wag-a-bag stores have implemented "Safe Place" signs outside its Round Rock locations. Partnering up with Starry and the National Safe Place Program, their mission is to help children in crisis.

Megan Potts with Wag-a-bag says store employees are certified to help youth in distress.

"All of our employees are background checked, and that's an actually safe place rule as well. Anything that we can do to protect children and help children out in our community were are 100 percent on board with that," said Potts.

National Safe Place program director, Katie Casstevens says it's about bringing the community together and making them aware.

"The more parents are aware of this the more teachers, school professionals and police and fire departments -- the more that everyone is going to know the opportunity and option is there for the youth.

Casstevens says they are working with fire, police departments and other businesses to provide this resource for children across Williamson county.
