Store Owner Turns To KEYE TV To Catch Suspected Thief

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:08 PM CDT

Caught on tape -- a North Austin store contacted KEYE TV hoping our viewers can help find a suspected thief. It's video you'll only see here.

The owner of Pago Wireless invested thousands of dollars in a security system that didn't stop the thief but just may provide enough evidence to lead to her arrest.

The store's owner, who did not want to be identified, said he couldn't believe the thief was so brazen. There are nearly 40 cameras in his store that can watch people at virtually every angle in and outside of the store. The owner said the $10,000 he spent on the security system was well worth it because he thinks it will only be a matter of time before the thief is caught.

You can watch as a woman reaches over the counter while an employee is distracted with helping another customer. It looks like she unplugs a phone and then walks out of the store. The owner said the merchandise she left with was a new $750 iPhone.

"She looks very professional," the owner said about the suspected thief. "She acted like she knew it was her phone. It was very easy. She makes sure she's safe, unplugs it and there you go. It's not a good feeling when someone takes something that belongs to you, it's painful."

He said his video takes out some of the sting.

"We have the picture, we've done our job," the owner explained. "Hopefully we can catch the person, so they don't do it again to other people."

The owner said he's considering adding more cameras for extra security and just bought a ten week old Rottweiler as a watch dog. It was clear on Monday, the napping puppy is still in training.

If you recognize the woman, officers ask for you to call the Austin Police Department with any leads.
