Teen Helps Track Down Suspected Carjacker

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:08 PM CDT

A Houston teenager used social media to help police track down the suspected carjacker who made off with her vehicle.

Monica Torres was robbed at gunpoint last weekend at a southeast Houston apartment complex. The thief stole her purse and car. Police say he also took her cellphone and used it to make several calls.

Torres retrieved her own phone records and dialed every number the suspect called. Eventually, she says, he called her back to taunt her.

"He had called me and said he had my car and he was playing with me," Torres said. "So when he had called me, I said, 'I am going to find you. You’re here in Houston and I’ve seen your Instagram page. I’m going to find you.'"

The big break came when someone from one of the phone numbers the suspect dialed sent Torres a text message with an address of where her car could be found.

Torres alerted police who went to the address and found 19-year-old Quintin Davone with the vehicle. Investigators say Davone tried to drive off but ended up crashing the car during a brief chase.

The car is now likely totaled, but Torres is happy to see justice was served.

"Even if you’re playing around, no,” she said. “You’re not going to touch my stuff."
