What you need to know about this season's flu
As the weather begins to cool down, there are a few seasonal medical concerns that all central Texans need to keep in mind. First and foremost " influenza, or the flu. The CDC recommends that people over 6 months of age get a flu vaccination. The flu vaccine is especially important for those who are at high risk of developing serious complications should they contract the flu, or for people who live or care for others who are at high risk of complications.
In addition to the flu, central Texans should also be aware of the West Nile Virus and Pertussis (known as Whooping Cough), as occurrences of these have been more prevalent in the region this year. If you think you may have symptoms of these illnesses, its important you visit a physician as soon as possible.
