- Nationally, the rate of substance dependence or abuse was about nine percent for youths aged 12 to 17, almost 22 percent for persons aged 18 to 25 and about seven percent for persons aged 26 or older. (2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, NSDUH).

Addiction/alcoholism is a disease, not a moral weakness or a matter of character. Like many chronic disease (such as cancer), while there may not be a cure, there are effective treatment options and people do have the ability to live a long, beautiful lives in a state of recovery.

Being at Austin has allowed me to learn why its important to love myself. I feel very good about myself because I am happy and healthy and able to think clearly and to understand why it is important to be and stay sober for my children.
