Central Texas Airshow 2012
Get ready for 3 Days of fun and excitement for the entire family! This year's airshow takes place from May 4th through May 6th at the Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport in Temple.
With over 25,000 people showing up to Temple Texas for the yearly Central Texas Airshow founded by the Georgetown Pilot's Association to celebrate the fun and excitement and love of airplanes! This year's show features Tora, Tora, Tora, Jan Collmer, Paul Fiala, Matt Younkin and Corkey Fornoff!
What you will see this year:
"December 7, 1941. A date which will live in infamy." The date of the fearless Japanese attack on America's Pearl Harbor and her entire naval fleet. The Commemorative Air Force's "Tora, Tora, Tora" is a recreation of this event. It is a memorial to all of the soldiers who have given their lives for their countries. This reenactment is intended to give the feeling of being in Pearl Harbor on that fateful day. The Japanese Zeros, Kate Torpedo Bombers, and Val Dive Bombers will roar by as they drop their destructive payloads on a sleeping U.S. Navy. The planes are beautiful and graceful. The pyrotechnics are surprising and breathtaking.
Jan Collmer's signature snap roll on takeoff with his Extra 300L sets the mood as he wows crowds with loops, rolls, lomcevaks, torque rolls, knife edge passes and his famous tail slide.
Like a burst of sunrays reaching out toward the earth, a brilliant yellow & orange custom-built aerobatic bi-plane maneuvers passionately as an enthusiastic audience watches in expectation for this veteran to the Central Texas Airshow. Rapid twists and turns combined with extreme climbs that die at its peak and fall uncontrollably are all part of the joy of aerobatic flight for Paul Fiala. The Great Lakes Model bi-plane he performs in is reminiscent of the old barnstorming days. But the spirited Fiala's flying ability would have left pilots of the 1920's and 30's with their jaws dropped and hearts racing.
It was 11 years ago at the Georgetown Airshow; the crowd was enamored with the legendary Bobby Younkin in his Twin Beech Act. This weekend we have the opportunity to see his son Matt Yonkin, perform the exact same exhilarating act. You are in for a real treat this weekend as Matt gracefully flies the Twin Beech in maneuvers that the airplane was never designed for. Matt's father always said "An air show act has to be unique & original to be great!" Matt is performing this great act this weekend in honor of his Dad.
Texas Raiders, a restored vintage WWII B-17 Bomber has been performing for over 40-years, bringing living history to life with its appearances at air shows and venues across the United States and Canada.
The Central Texas Airshow is proud to present legendary airshow and movie pilot Corkey Fornof. Corkey will fire up the skies of Central Texas as he demonstrates the performance of the Fury, a single-engine, retractable-gear, two-seat sport aircraft designed and built by LoPresti Speed Merchants. This airplane is a timeless classic, with the lines of a fighter, the performance of a Ferrari and the comfort of a fine touring sedan.
