Wendy Davis Unveils First TV Ad Attacking Abbott
The first television spot Democrat Wendy Davis says she will air against Republican Greg Abbott in the Texas governor's race attacks his judicial opinion from a rape lawsuit in the 1990s.
Davis on Friday accused Abbott of siding with a corporation over a rape victim while serving on the Texas Supreme Court. Abbott's campaign called the ad "despicable" and gutter politics.
The high court in 1999 upheld a $160,000 award to a woman raped at home by a vacuum-cleaner salesman. Abbott and two other justices disagreed, saying the salesman's employer shouldn't be liable.
Davis has been a heavy underdog and is trying to gain ground on Abbott with less than three months until Election Day.
Her campaign wouldn't disclose the cost of the ad or where it will air.
