Fans Mellow So Far At Austin Fan Fest

Austinites are mixing with all the international visitors at the Formula 1 Fan Fest downtown.
Folks have been listening to live music on one of the five stages, driving racing simulations and checking out rows of classic and luxury cars.
It was pretty mellow Saturday night. Many people said downtown Austin was less crowded than most Saturday evenings. They told us all the buzz and unknown about Formula 1 may have scared people away from venturing out.
Our crew drove down there around 6:30 p.m. and hit very little traffic.
Austin police officers told us they have not had any major problems at Fan Fest.
“We said the same thing about South by Southwest and ACL and we’re doing good,” said Austinite Sparky Anderson about negative hype surrounding Formula 1. “I think Austin got itself on the international map.”
Fan Fest continues on Sunday from 10 a.m. – 2 a.m. Organizers expect Sunday to be the most crowded day.
