Retailers Outside Austin See Spike In Sales For F1

The race at the Formula One track in Southeast Travis County may be long gone but the race for bargains at the San Marcos and Round Rock Outlet Malls is still at full speed. Retailers there are seeing a major boost from F1 visitors. They say it kicked off their shopping season a week early and it’s getting better every day.
Maggie Tagle came in for the race from Puebla, Mexico and says her favorite part of her visit is shopping. “We love shopping, we spent a lot of money shopping,” she says. Tagle’s car was packed with merchandize she bought at the San Marcos Premium Outlet Mall.
Officials with the Outlet Mall in Round Rock saw the same effect as their parking lot started filling up late last week. Jana Griswold who is the spokesperson for the Round Rock Outlet Mall says, “we saw a dramatic increase in the international visitors from Mexico, Ireland, England , the Netherlands , and Australia.” Griswold adds that while they didn’t know what to expect they had a very strong week and their retailers are reporting great results.
Those results are only going to get better as the Holiday shopping season kicks off on Black Friday.
As for F1 visitors, they’re already revving up for next year. “I love the race because we get to shopping,” Tagle says with a smile.
