Bastrop Co. Settles Taser Incident For $775K

Updated: Tuesday, August 26 2014, 10:45 PM CDT

Bastrop County has settled a federal lawsuit with the family of a Cedar Creek High School student for $775,000. He was hit by a Taser from an off duty sheriff's deputy after a fight and suffered a serious brain injury.

Last year on Nov. 20, two deputies tried to break up a fight between two girls at Cedar Creek High School.

Investigators say Noe Nino de Rivera began acting aggressively, leading a deputy to shock him with a stun gun -- he then fell to the ground and hitting his head.

He was in a coma for months with a serious brain injury.

The Bastrop County sheriff's deputy has been cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury.
