Fridays With Uncle Fred 4/26/2013

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:08 PM CDT

It’s party weekend all across Central Texas.  We started off this morning talking about the number of communities that have their annual festival this weekend.  The big ones are Yesterfest in Bastrop and the Wiener Dog Races in Buda.  There’s also the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown and the Lavender Fest near Fredericksburg.  In San Marcos, college radio station KTSW is putting on its annual MR Fest (pronounced Mister Fest.)  MR Fest is perfect for those who think SXSW has gotten too big.  MR Fest features 90 acts in more than a dozen venues today and Saturday.  And their motto is “No cash – no wristband – no problem.”   And here in Austin, Eeyore’s Birthday celebrates its 50th go-round around the Maypole.  Just click on the various festival names to go to the event web site.

George Rollow dropped in to show off his expertise in frontier gaming and to invite us to Yesterfest, a big weekend festival in Bastrop.  Their El Camino Real Music Festival tonight celebrates Latin music.  On Saturday from 10:00am to 6:00pm check out their street fair, street market and live music including Tish Hinojosa.   To get to the festival from Austin head east on Hwy 71 through Bastrop, then turn left on 95 and left again on 150.  You’ll see signs directing you to the parking.  And don’t forget to get your tickets early for Sunday’s Cowboy breakfast.   For info call, 512-303-0558.

And Lucy and friends came to invite us to the annual Wiener Dog Races in Buda.  This is just fun to watch and no animals are harmed in the making of this festival.  They don’t even get winded.  There are other fun activities, too, such as spelling bees and bake-offs.  It’s all family fun Saturday and Sunday in Buda.
