16th Annual Mighty TX Dog Walk

Updated: Thursday, May 15 2014, 11:33 AM CDT

Fur will be flying this weekend in Downtown Austin. Thousands of dogs and their owners are expected to participate in the 16th Annual Mighty Texas Dog Walk.

The fundraiser benefits Service Dogs Inc., an Austin based non-profit that trains service dogs for the disabled community, free of charge.

Sheri Soltes, Founder and President of Service Dogs Inc. rescues animals from local shelters. It takes about a year to train them and costs approximately $20,000 per animal. The Mighty Texas Dog Walk helps offset those costs.

This year the event has changed locations and will be held at the Palmer Events Center. Tickets are $30 online and $40 at the event. The walk has been shortened and will be more of a promenade around the event center. Inside the event center there will be vendors showcasing state-of-the art pet supplies and will be giving away free pet swag.

In addition Bobbi Colorado an animal talent agent will be searching for animals to be featured in films, commercials and TV programs.

Service Dogs Inc. will also be trying to break a Guinness World Record for the largest fur ball.
