Academic Improvements Planned For 11 Austin Schools

Updated: Monday, October 28 2013, 05:54 AM CDT
Here in Central Texas, big changes could be coming to Austin schools. Later today, the school board will vote on whether to pursue a plan to improve schools that the state says aren't up to par. We're talking about 11 schools across Austin that the Texas Education Agency rated as "improvement required" in 2013. The schools are listed below:

High Schools: Eastside Memorial, Lanier, LBJ, Travis

Middle Schools: Dobie, Garcia, Martin, Pearce

Elementary: Rodriguez

Other: Rosedale School, Travis County Day School

For the high schools, the district says a big problem lies with kids taking too long to graduate and doing so on less rigorous academic plans. As for the middle and elementary school campuses, AISD officials say they fell short when it comes to student progress, achievement, and closing performance gaps.

Before the board votes on the plan, you can let them know what you think starting at 7 p.m. Monday night at AISD headquarters, located at 1111 W. 6th Street.
