Americans Spend Billions On Pets

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:12 PM CDT

Do you have a top-dollar dog? Believe it or not, Americans spent more than $52 billion last year. If that's not staggering enough, imagine spending thousands for just one animal.

One dog owner spends $400/month on his Chinese Crested named Prince.  He wants to make sure his dog is treated like royalty.

Dogs aren't the only pets costing owners thousands. One lady missed her deceased cat so much, she had it cloned. Her copy cat named Little Nicky cost $65,000.

Perhaps the most expensive dog, though, is a Tibetan Mastiff named Big Splash. A Chinese business tycoon paid $1.5 million for what he calls a "perfect specimen."
