APD, Travis County DA's Office To Address K2 Concerns Friday

Updated: Friday, May 9 2014, 08:49 AM CDT

In Austin, there have been more than three dozen K2 overdoses in just the last week and a half. On Friday, police, EMS, and the District Attorney's Office will address public safety concerns. But it's a problem that extends beyond Central Texas. More than 120 cases have been reported in Dallas and Austin, and the issue has made national headlines.

A lieutenant with APD told KEYE TV early Friday morning he's unaware of any K2 overdoses or arrests overnight Thursday into Friday, but has been hearing about cases involving K2 all over the country and that the DEA is looking into whether it's all connected.

During a press conference Friday, APD, EMS, and the DA's office are expected to address not just the dangers of the drug and behavioral effects, but also public safety concerns, what's legal and what's not, and what police are doing with other agencies to stop the spread of K2.
