Arro Restaurant Opens on Sixth Street

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:13 PM CDT

Chef Drew Curren is heating up the West Sixth Street scene even more with his latest restaurant Arro .. (pronounced arrow).  The casual French restaurant on the corner of 5th and Nueces is the latest from Curren and his partners at ELM Restaurant Group, who are also behind 24 Diner and East Tiger Bake Shop and Beer Garden.  Curren has taken traditional French methods of cooking and made it simpler and less intimidating.  “We've taken French food and made it extremely approachable”, says Curren.  There are no white table cloths. The canvas lined ceiling and reclaimed wood walls give the interior a rustic but refined look.  Plus, the wood fired grill puts a hint of smoke in the air transporting you from 6th Street to the French countryside.  Chef Drew says, “That peasant style of cooking is really what were after, not too finessed, not too whimsical, just real honest straight forward food.”

Everything is made fresh daily using locally sourced ingredients.  An all French wine list has been compiled by a Master Sommelier… one of roughly 200 in the world.  The menu also features a fixed price 3 course meal for $25… making the food both approachable and affordable.  Chef Drew is joined by his wife, Pastry Chef Mary Catherine Curren, who whips up sugary creations that steal the show every night according to Chef Drew.  Expect a big emphasis on service, because both he and his wife feel that their food is only as good as the service that delivers it.  You can enjoy a late night bottle of bubbly or a full meal since the kitchen will remain open until 2am.   Chef Drew hopes that everyone who walks through the doors will embrace the inspiration for the name Arro  … Arroser la Vie … which means to toast life!

Arro opens Saturday July 20, 2013.
