Austin Fan Fest Street Closures Continue

Updated: Thursday, November 15 2012, 07:58 AM CST
The first time trials for Formula One are set for Thursday morning with the big event happening Friday through Sunday.

That means everyone in Austin needs to brace themselves for a congestion nightmare.

And it’s not just about the race. Performers  Aerosmith, Enrique Iglesias and Flo Rida are expected to draw large crowds.

City officials tell us they’re expecting more than 300,000 people over the weekend, like nothing they have seen before.

Closures for Austin Fan Fest in the Warehouse District started Wednesday. One block on 3rd and 4th streets was shut down. Starting Thursday at 6 a.m. two more blocks on those streets and three blocks of Colorado will close. The 4th street closure will be extended from Lavaca to Congress and 2nd, 3rd and 5th streets will be blocked off.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, Congress Avenue will be closed from 2nd to 5th streets and will stay closed until Monday.

However, if you are headed to places such as Whole Foods, bars and restaurants on West 6th, and around the University of Texas campus, you will probably be okay.

If you have a flight out of Austin Bergstrom Intl. Airport, officials encourage you to get there at least two hours early.
