Austin Gears Up For Stiletto Stampede

Hundreds will be raising awareness for breast cancer this weekend in the 2012 Austin Stampede.

However, rather than wearing tennis shoes women and men will be dashing in heels.

This is the fourth year the Austin based group has put on the event. It brings awareness to the risks of breast cancer and empowers people to prevent the disease, by utilizing overall breast self-awareness through early detection, screening methods and education each year in Austin.

The race starts Saturday October 20.

•Location: Triangle, 4700 West Guadalupe Street
•Race Time: 10 a.m.
•Individual Registration: $40
•Group of Four Registration: $130
•Student Registration: $20

Registration Includes:
Race Bag, Race Tank, IdealHeel and a goodie bag filled with samples and discounts.

The Austin Stampede will consist of the following heats:

•The Survivor Stampede Heat: Honoring All Cancer Survivors
•The Stiletto Stampede Heat: The High Heel Dash
•The Stroller Stampede Heat: Mom and Dad in Heels
•The Drag Race: Men in Heels
•The Celebrity Heat: Local Austin Celebrities will participate
•The Pooch Scooch: Sponsored by
•Prizes for Best in Show!

The Stiletto Stampede has a very active board made up of community leaders, physicians, counselors, certified trainers, breast cancer rehabilitation instructors and many volunteers. Their mission is to encourage women and men under the age of 40 to:

•Know Your Family History and Personal Risk
•Get Screened and Perform Regular Home Breast Exams
•Know and Understand What is Normal for Your Breasts
•Make Healthy Lifestyle Choices
