Austin Ready For Family Friendly New Year's Party

Updated: Thursday, December 27 2012, 07:28 AM CST
If you're new to the Austin area you may not be familiar with the city's annual family friendly New Year’s Eve party.  This is the third year for the event.  The alcohol-free celebration will be centered at Auditorium Shores and feature three stages of live music and entertainment.  Being a family event, it gets underway earlier at 5 p.m. It also ends earlier with the fireworks finale at 10 p.m.  That'll get you and the family out of downtown before the entertainment district's revelry really gets going.

Austin's New Year's Eve party will force some street closures around party central at Auditorium Shores.  Riverside Drive will be closed between the Palmer Events Center and Auditorium Shores.  South First Street will be closed from Riverside Drive up to Cesar Chavez Street.  And Cesar Chavez will be closed just west of the First Street Bridge.

As usual, parking will be at a premium.  The city recommends finding parking on the north side of Lady Bird Lake and walking across the bridge to Auditorium Shores.  And-- please-- no parking in the residential areas around Palmer.
