Black Friday Draws Overnight Crowds In Austin

Updated: Friday, November 29 2013, 09:12 AM CST

Stores remained busy across Central Texas overnight as Black Friday officially kicked into high gear.

Round Rock Premium Outlets saw a full parking lot and shoppers filling stores around 2 a.m. Friday.

Director of Marketing Jana Griswold, said the earlier 6 p.m. start time this year helped with crowd control and freeing up parking spaces, as people arrived gradually throughout the night, instead of the big rush seen in years past.

While temperatures dipped into the upper 20s at times, officials say the weather didn't keep people away, and crowds appeared to be on par with previous years. The crowds lulled around sunrise but are expected to pick back up around 8 a.m.

Griswold and security staff at the outlets tell us they had no issues with disruptive shoppers, and Austin Police reported no incidents around the city.
