Capital Metro Ridership Up

Capital Metro’s ridership continues its growth spurt. Metro rail and special events have seen the biggest jump over the past year. The new findings come from a recent American Public Transportation report. The increase reflects a national trend. According to the APTA, 10.7 billion trips were taken using public transportation in 2013, reaching the highest ridership levels in 57 years.

Here in Austin, a reported 767,000 rides were taken on the commuter rail line. MetroRail ridership has more than quadrupled since it began in 2010. The public transit company says it gave more than 27. 4 million bus rides last year. Capital Metro also says it plans spend more than $27 million on improving the Red Line, including enhancements to the signal system and working to allow faster train speeds.
