COA Composting Rebate Program Expanded

Updated: Thursday, April 24 2014, 08:08 AM CDT

New changes to the City of Austin's Home Composting Rebate Program. The program has been expanded to include everyone who pays the Clean Community Fee on their monthly utility bills, including those living in apartments and condos.

Now residents can also fill out an application to receive a $75 coupon to take to select stores to purchase a compost system. In the past you would have to buy the system first and wait for a rebate. In order to qualify for the $75 coupon new rules say you must take a free composting class provided by the city. Click here for locations and times.

The new program has also done away with restrictions on trash cart sizes. You no longer have to reduce your trash cart size to compost. However, if you want a discount off your monthly utility bill, that is still a requirement.
