Cool Schools, Bowie High School

Updated: Thursday, November 14 2013, 08:22 AM CST

James Bowie High School has made KEYE TV's list for Cool Schools. As the largest high school in the Austin Independent School District, Bowie has more than 2,500 hundred students. More than 250 of them woke up bright and early to perform for our viewers on Wednesday.

The Bulldog Cheerleaders, band, Silver Stars were all on hand to entertain us and they most certainly did not disappoint. Oh and we can't forget about Bella and Buster, the Bulldog's adorable mascots who danced the morning away.

The cheerleaders have just entered their competitive season and will be heading north to Dallas next month to show off their long hours of practice.  Wednesday they showed us some of the stunts their perfecting.

The band is also preparing for an exciting trip to London where they will perform in a New Year's parade. This will be the first time the band travels overseas.

The Silver Stars will also be hopping on a plane, but to Hawaii! They're going to be competing come Spring Break.

We also learned of a district wide food drive. All AISD's schools will compete to see which school can fill a POD with the most canned goods. Student Council is in charge of organizing the donations at Bowie and last year won first place. They hope to collect even more canned goods this holiday season and will be accepting donations in the front office of James Bowie High School at 4103 W. Slaughter Lane if you would like to donate.

A special thanks to all the students who sacrificed a few hours of sleep to perform for KEYE TV Morning News and our wonderful viewers. A photo album of Wednesday's pep rally has been posted on Facebook for you to view.
