Dell Children's Hospital Ready To Open New Tower

Updated: Saturday, August 3 2013, 04:12 PM CDT

Just seven years old, the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas at the old Robert Mueller Airport site is ready to expand.

Next week they formally open their new bed tower - the W.H. and Elaine McCarty South Tower.

Sister Teresa George, president and chief operating officer of Dell Children’s says, “Having reached capacity ahead of schedule, the beds in the new tower will enable us to continue serving Central Texas kids while adding innovations that mean fewer families must travel out of the area to find care for their children.”

The tower features a number of innovations including a comprehensive in-patient acute care pediatric rehabilitation center and an expanded and enhanced Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) which allows specialists to identify specific types of seizures as a part of the diagnostic and monitoring process.

The new facility also features a dedicated classroom for students requiring longer stays so that their return to school is successful.  and being Austin, there's plenty of art and a healing garden.

The public gets its first peek at the W.H and Elaine McCarty South Tower with an open house on Friday May 3 and a preview party this Saturday May 4.  The tower officially opens May 6, when patients move in.  For more information, visit www.dellchildrens.net.
